Why I Create Art & Write

The art, I use to help me see, difficult to access pieces of my inner landscape... Like talking, my art usually spills out unexpectedly, brush stroke by brush stroke, revealing hitherto unknown inner truths and frequently takes me years to understand.

The writing, I use to help me feel and get clear....  Although it too may spill out quickly initially, I work and sit with it for a long time; modifying, adding, thinking and feeling... As with the art I've created, I write, always, primarily for myself — to clarify my ideas and understanding of what lies within me.  Writing allows me to take my time with each word, each phrase and each sentence, so I can really plumb the depths of the feelings these contain. I work at every piece of writing for a long time; sitting with it, feeling and perfecting it, before I let it out to be seen by anyone else. Often no one else ever sees what I write.  Its sole purpose, in this case, has simply been to help me feel more deeply and fully as well as to help me clarify my thinking.   This slow process of working through my writing, is often necessary for me to feel each tiny nuance of sensation as deeply, fully and completely as possible.  It also helps me to see connections I might miss otherwise.
However, in addition, now with two completed books on my hands, I feel it isn’t just me who can benefit from what I’ve written and painted.  Over the course of the journey, covered from different perspectives in both my books, I’ve worked and lived very differently from the standard norm and have done what few people do.  I’ve lived focusing and working  inside and let “The World” and outside people, things, places, job...  go, as much as I possibly could.  Although I doubt anyone wants or needs to do this as intensively as I have, pieces of what I’ve done can be used in many ways.
My journey through my inner landscape has been unique — from my approach, to what I discovered, through how I’ve worked with what I found.  It therefore feels important, I share where I’ve gone and what I’ve done to give others access to the different approaches I’ve used.  The consequences, have also changed  how I live now and where I place importance.  Since contrast and diversity are essential for both vision and clarity, it feels important for me to share some of these too. It is my hope that sharing and discussing this unique journey I’ve taken will help us all to clarify our understanding of ourselves and why we’re here.
